A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Paros, Greece is everything you picture a true European island to be like: charming houses, exotic beaches, peaceful fishing villages, romantic sunsets and serene countryside.

Even though all of the Greek islands are absolutely stunning, the island of Paros is where you could relax, have fun and enjoy the beauty of Greece without the hassle of major tourism. During my trip to Greece in summer 2016, Paros was our third stop behind Athens and Santorini. I absolutely loved this island and believe it is the perfect stop for those who are sailing through Greece.

Transportation to Paros:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Ferry: The best way to get from island to island in Greece is by taking the ferry. There are a plethora of ferries that run throughout the day and it usually takes anywhere from a half hour to a few hours to get from each island. While you are on the ferry, there are areas where you could leave your luggage based on where you are going. There is also a bar where you could order food and drinks.

Taxi or Rent a Car: When you finally reach Paros, you could either rent a car, which is the expensive option (out of the two) or you could travel around via taxi. No matter where you are staying on the island, you could find taxis everywhere. If your hotel is close to the popular village of Naoussa, you could walk to the different restaurants and bars.

Where to Stay in Paros:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Throughout the island of Paros are gorgeous hotels ranging from budget to luxury. No matter where you stay, it will be beautiful! Some of the best areas to stay in are on the island is at Golden Beach, Aliki, Santa Maria Beach and Naoussa.

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

In addition to staying in a hotel, there are also a variety of Airbnb options if you rather rent someone’s house, villa or apartment.

Things to Do:

Spend the Day at Santa Maria Beach:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Nothing screams vacation than relaxing at the beach, of course with a colorful drink in hand. Santa Maria Beach is the perfect place to spend a day (or a few hours, depending on what you want to do) in Paros. There is something for everyone to enjoy from romantic restaurants to fun water sports and activities.

Santa Maria Beach is located near Paros’ village of Naoussa in Plastira Bay and it offers a golden coastline with a beautiful view of the neighboring island, Naxos. In addition, the water at Santa Maria Beach is a stunning crystal blue that will leave you in a dream. When you go swimming in the water, you could see the bottom clearly and the temperature is also perfect!

Here is everything to do in Santa Maria Beach:

  • Relax at the beach and go swimming.
  • Enjoy a fresh plate of souvlaki or seafood at Nava Lounge.
  • Dance your heart out by the beach bar. They have amazing drinks and the DJ is awesome!
  • Have fun on the water by going windsurfing, snorkeling, paddle boarding and/or boat tubing. I personally went boat tubing and had a blast!

Enjoy a Sunset Dinner in Naoussa:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Paros’ famous village of Naoussa is the perfect place to enjoy dinner with a view. Just like the sunsets in both Athens, Santorini and Mykonos, Paros’ golden hour definitely did not disappoint!

Located in Naoussa is a promenade filled with great restaurants, cafés, shops, bars and nightclubs. No matter where you go, you will enjoy it! For dinner, I highly recommend eating at Hostatria Ristorante Italiano. They have a plethora of fresh Italian seafood dishes and an amazing wine selection.

Party Island Style:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

After dinner in Naoussa, take the party onto one of the bars or nightclubs in the area. Some of my favorite places were Saloon D’Or, which is a hookah and cocktail lounge; The Dubliner that offers five different legendary bar options as well as Agosta, a Cycladic three-story lounge that overlooks the sea!

Each of these places offers a different ambiance, which is great because you will be exposed to all forms of Paros’ nightlife!

Sail Away on the Aegean Sea:

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

One of the best and most fulfilling things to do during your time in Greece is signing up for an island boat tour. The best island to do a boat cruise is from Paros. Next to the main island of Paros is a smaller island called Antiparos that offers secluded beaches, beautiful cliffs, glistening blue/green water and vast land that will leave you amazed for days.

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

In all honesty, the day that we did our island cruise had to be one of the most fun days of my life. There is nothing better than being surrounded by gorgeous views and water and dancing on a boat to Greek music! In addition, the cabin crew served us refreshing Greek wine as well as the country’s signature beverage called Ouzo, which is an anise-flavored liquor. It was amazing!

Our first stop on our island cruise was to an area that consisted of the most beautiful emerald-looking water I’ve ever seen. This was the first place on our island excursion where I was able to jump into the water and experience pure bliss!

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

The next adventure on our island cruise led us to the beautiful cliffs of Antiparos, which I mention above. On this island, you could explore the ancient caves, archaeological sites and admire the amazing scenery. Our boat stopped at a beautiful cove where we were able to swim through caves and jump off of a cliff. When you go cliff jumping, I recommend that you bring water shoes so that you don’t easily slip and get hurt. You will also thank yourself since the rocks are so rugged and painful to walk on.

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

Next to the cliff were small caves where you could swim through. If you have snorkeling gear, I recommend bringing it with you, as you will be able to see some jewels under the beautiful water!

After our cliff jumping and cave exploring adventure, our cabin crew threw us a delicious barbecue for lunch. Depending on your boat cruise and how long it is, most of the time it will include a lunch or dinner. In our case, we got to enjoy grilled chicken and pork that was served with homemade pita bread, Greek salad, tzatziki sauce and fresh fruit. It was amazing to say the least.

Right before our island cruise ended, we stopped at the famous ‘Blue Lagoon’ (not to confuse it with the Blue Lagoon in Iceland). It is in this spot where you could perfectly see the sea floor. This is the perfect place to go swimming or make your way over to the private beach nearby. Above all, it is the best spot to take photographs!

A Vacation Guide to Paros, Greece

No matter what type of boat cruise you sign up for or if you decide to do a private or public one, you are definitely in for a great time!
