The Most Epic Adventure Yet!

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

New Zealand has been on my bucket list for quite some time now and I was so excited to finally travel to the South Island this past February. Prior to hopping on my flight, I didn’t have many expectations, all I knew was that I was in for one epic adventure!

During my time on the South Island, I based myself in Queenstown for two weeks where I participated in fun activities throughout the city and did wonderful day trips to the breathtaking natural wonders New Zealand offers. For my first three days in Queenstown, I was so happy to have partnered with JUCY Snooze – a fairly new, fun and luxurious hostel that opened in April 2018.

In this blog post, read all about my experience staying at JUCY Snooze and discover the best things to do in and around Queenstown.

*During my time in Queenstown, New Zealand, JUCY Snooze hosted me for a few nights and I was gifted with a voucher to eat at Miss Lucy’s during my stay.

Staying at JUCY Snooze:

Staying at JUCY Snooze was such a blast! I had so much fun during my three nights there and I met amazing individuals from all over the world. As a solo traveler, this place was perfect for me! Not only is JUCY Snooze located in Queenstown, they also have locations in Christchurch, which is also located in the South Island and also in Auckland, which is located in the North Island. If you are planning to stay in different areas and cities around the country, I couldn’t recommend JUCY Snooze more! Everyone that works at JUCY Snooze is also friendly and always has a smile on their face.

JUCY Snooze hosted me in their private Queen Room that had the BEST views of Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables mountain range and downtown Queenstown. I will admit that the room was small, but it was perfect for me! There was also a television and a large space under my bed to store my big luggage. (My room also came with towels, shampoo/conditioner and body wash.) Not only did I enjoy having a room to myself, I also loved having my own private ensuite bathroom as well! Overall, JUCY Snooze is super clean, refreshing and the beds are extremely comfortable!

In addition to the private rooms, JUCY Snooze is also known to be New Zealand’s first hostel to offer capsule-style sleeping pods in their pod rooms that are spacious and also super comfortable and clean! When you stay in JUCY Snooze’s pod rooms, there are communal bathrooms for you to use and shower in.

Not only could you choose a Pod or private Queen Room with views, there are also private Queen Rooms with balconies or no windows, private Twin rooms with two twin beds and Quad rooms with bunk beds.

What JUCY Snooze Offers:

On top of being fun, cozy and clean, JUCY Snooze is also convenient! When you first arrive at JUCY Snooze to check in, there are express self check-in/check-out kiosks that are easy to use. (Reception is also open 24-hours in case you need help or assistance with something.) When you check in, you will need your passport and reservation number and you will automatically get your room/access key within seconds. Check out is even easier!

In addition to a smooth check in, JUCY Snooze also has unlimited and fast Wi-Fi, laundry rooms, communal kitchens, luggage storage rooms and great workspaces! It is the perfect place for travel bloggers, digital nomads and other working travelers who need to log in every now and then. It is also great for vacationers to FaceTime or Skype loved ones back home!

What is also AMAZING about JUCY Snooze is that it is located right in the heart of downtown Queenstown! Within minutes, you could walk to any restaurant or bar, the waterfront, gondola, hiking trails, parks, tourism offices and public transit stations.

Top Things to do When You’re staying at JUCY Snooze:

JUCY Cruise around Milford Sound:

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

On my second day at JUCY Snooze, I booked the Sunrise Coach and Cruise with JUCY. What is great about staying at the hostel is that you will get great discounts off of all JUCY tours!

JUCY Cruise offers four cruise departures during the summer season and three during wintertime. Prior to going to Milford Sound, I was recommended to try and go on a rainy day because that is when you will see the BEST waterfalls. Since you could never predict the weather, especially at Milford Sound, it is best to just book the tour and see what happens. Either way, there are pros and cons to both weather types. On a nice day, you will have clear views of the Sound and fjords, but you won’t catch many waterfalls. On a rainy day, you will see the most outstanding waterfalls of your life, but visibility will not be clear. If you get lucky, you could enjoy both rain and sunshine during your cruise, where you will be able to catch the most beautiful rainbows. No matter what though, you will still have an amazing time!

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

Since I didn’t rent a car, the Sunrise Coach and Cruise was perfect for me! What is nice and convenient about traveling with JUCY is that their bus stop is right across the street from JUCY Snooze in Queenstown. Because we were departing Queenstown at 5:45am that morning, it was super easy for me! Overall, the tour started around 6am and we arrived back to Queenstown around 6/6:30pm. Click here to check out JUCY Cruise‘s other Milford Sound tours.

As part of Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is approximately 4 hours from Queenstown, so we made a few pit stops along the way to go to the restroom and to also grab coffee and a bite to eat. (We also saw the most amazing sunrise!) The town of Te Anau is halfway between Queenstown and Milford Sound, so it was the perfect place to stop. It is a small town with a downtown area that features gift shops, restaurants, cafés and more! We also stopped at a few scenic points as well – Mirror Lakes and The Chasm.

A little north of Te Anau and right as you enter Fiordland National Park is Mirror Lakes. These small lakes provide reflections of the nearby Earl Mountains. Waterfowl and wetland plants can also be viewed against a beech forest. Even though visibility wasn’t the best during the day I went, it was still beautiful. Please note that this place is accessible for all and is an easy walk from Milford Road.

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

I like to consider The Chasm as the rainforest of New Zealand’s South Island. Located right off of Milford Road and not too far from Milford Sound is where you will find a walkway leading into a dense forest of powerful waterfalls from the Cleddau River. The walk up to the waterfalls is around 10 minutes and it is absolutely beautiful no matter what the weather is like.

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

The cruise itself around Milford Sound was one epic experience! During the cruise, there were torrential downpours and heavy winds, making the experience a lot more fun and beautiful. You could catch views both inside and outside of the boat, but I recommend definitely making your way outside, even if the weather isn’t the best! The main viewing deck was covered overhead, so you didn’t get soaked (you still got wet though). The upper deck, on the other hand, was where you were getting drenched! A few people on my tour knew to bring bathing suits, which was a great idea! Since I wasn’t prepared, I didn’t go up there. We sailed through the Sound and caught amazing waterfalls. During the last part of the tour, we visited the largest waterfall in Milford Sound, which was absolutely incredible! (As part of the tour, we were also provided with a pita lunch.)

During my time in Queenstown, I did paragliding, luging and jetboating and they were all a BLAST! What is great about JUCY Snooze is that since there is a Travel Desk in the hostel, you could book any of these tours right there! That is what I did when I booked my paragliding and jetboating adventures. What is also awesome about JUCY Snooze’s location is that it is in walking distance to the city’s Gondola that takes you to the top of Bob’s Peak. From there, you could decide if you want to go luging, which is what I did last minute; grab a bite to eat; cool off with an ice cream; enjoy a drink or you could even go hiking and/or mountain biking and take in all of the spectacular views. The adventures in Queenstown are endless!

Evenings at Miss Lucy’s Rooftop Pizzeria & Bar

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

The number one place I enjoyed having fun during my time in Queenstown was at Miss Lucy’s located on the rooftop of Jucy Snooze! It is the perfect and convenient location for guests at Jucy Snooze to make friends and enjoy an evening with views, good food, drinks and games! What is awesome about Miss Lucy’s is that it is open to the public as well. It is the place that everyone goes to after a day at work as well as after adventuring and touring the South Island. What I loved most about my stay at JUCY Snooze was that my room was literally right next to Miss Lucy’s! Don’t worry though, you still need your access key to get into the private hallways where the rooms are and you cannot hear the noise coming from Miss Lucy‘s from your room.

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

Miss Lucy’s is a quirky and playful rooftop that is hopping every evening and night of the week. Not only did I get to savor Miss Lucy’s woodfired pizza and local brews and wines, I also enjoyed their breakfast a couple of mornings as well as the delicious vegetarian dumplings they made in celebration of Chinese New Year. (Click here to check out Miss Lucy’s menu.) The staff at Miss Lucy’s are also super friendly and ensure everyone is always having a great time! It happened to be Valentine’s Day during one of the evenings I was at Miss Lucy’s and they had a super fun Beats and Bingo game where they played classic love songs ranging from Elton John to Beyoncé. The winner of bingo got a free day trip to Milford Sound. Even though I didn’t win, it was still so much fun!

The pizzeria and bar itself is absolutely adorable and shall I say, super “Instagrammable” too! There is a scenic balcony where you could enjoy dinner and drinks with a view of The Remarkables and Bob’s Peak. There is also a fireplace outside too, which is really nice on a cooler evening! In addition, there is also a fun area to lounge around and play board games as well as tables and high tops to eat at.

Experience Queenstown, New Zealand with JUCY Snooze

As a solo traveler, I had no problem making friends in Queenstown and Miss Lucy’s was the place where I connected over pizza and beer with a guy from Australia, shared many laughs over Valentine’s Day Beats and Bingo with a girl from Japan, had breakfast with a woman from Germany and connected with a group of local Kiwis over an ice cream social. No matter what night it is, there is always something fun going on at Miss Lucy’s. Click here to check out their events page.
