Peninsula Papagayo is located on Costa Ricaβs Pacific Coast and it is known as Latin Americaβs ultimate and exclusive coastal resort that boasts some of the countryβs most luxurious hotels. It features stunning coastal landscape, amazing biodiversity, a dry tropical forest (in fact this area is one of the driest in Costa Rica compared to the rest of the country) and miles of beautiful beaches!
During April 2021, I did a week-long trip to Costa Rica with Caitlin of My Darling Passport. Costa Rica had been on my bucket list for quite a few years leading up to 2021 and during this wonderful journey, we got to spend 3 days in La Fortuna and Arenal before spending another 2 days in Monteverde. We then ended our trip on the coast of Papagayo Peninsula.
Traveling to Costa Rica was special for me because it is a sacred country that lives off of the βPura Vidaβ mindset. During a trip to Costa Rica, you will be greeted with βPura Vidaβ by most locals. This famous saying means βPure Lifeβ in Spanish. It is a Costa Rican philosophy that encourages the appreciation of lifeβs simple treasures. It also means slowing things down, celebrating good fortune, refusing to take anything for granted, enjoying a laid-back lifestyle and living life to the fullest. In fact, it is more than just a saying, it is a lifestyle!

Our last few days in this beautiful country were spent relaxing at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. In this article, read all about the top exclusive Peninsula Papagayo resort.

Traveling to and Around Costa Rica:

From Newark Airport, Caitlin and I flew to Juan SantamarΓa International Airport in the capital, San Jose, with a layover at Miami International Airport. From San Jose, we rented a car and drove over three hours to the La Fortuna and Arenal area. (Since we ended our trip on the Pacific coast of the country, we flew home from Daniel Oduber QuirΓ³s International Airport in Liberia.) You can find great flight deals through Skyscanner!
Please note that the best way to get around Costa Rica is by renting a car and you do not need an international driverβs license to rent a vehicle there. Also, the best GPS to use for directions is Google Maps. If you choose to take public transportation in Costa Rica, there are numerous bus companies that will take you around the country at an affordable cost. Uber is also available in certain cities in Costa Rica and there are also city taxis as well.

After spending 2 days in Monteverde, Caitlin and I drove around 3 hours to Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo where we spent our last two nights and three days.
Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo – Exclusive Resort in Costa Rica

The number of things to do at Four Seasons Costa Rica is endless and I cannot wait to show you why it is the top exclusive Costa Rica Papagayo resort.
Staying at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo:

During our couple days at Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, Caitlin and I stayed in the Cielo Room.
I absolutely loved staying in this spacious room because there was a lot of natural light, a stunning private terrace that overlooked Playa Blanca (the Four Seasonsβ bay beach), decorative furniture that fit the ambiance and more.
Our room came with two double beds that were extremely comfortable! Overall, I LOVE how comfortable the beds are at all Four Seasons Resorts. (I also talk about how comfy they were when I visited Four Seasons Anguilla and Four Seasons Nevis!) I always get a great nightβs sleep staying there! There was also a large en-suite bathroom that had a his and her sink, luxurious deep soaking tub, rain shower and marble all around!

The Four Seasons Costa Rica also provided us with Champagne to celebrate our amazing experience at this Peninsula Papagayo exclusive resort as well as a lovely tropical fruit platter to enjoy.
In addition, there is also an in-room safe, iron and ironing board, ceiling fans, an eco-friendly cooling system, coffee and tea maker, plush robes and slippers, exclusive bath amenities by Natura Bisse, hair dryer, walk-in closet and a bedside outlet to charge phones, laptops and more.

What to do at Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo:

Dine and Drink at the Four Seasons Papagayo Resort:
One of my favorite parts about staying at this exclusive resort on Peninsula Papagayo is that the food was absolutely amazing from the morning breakfast, to the pool and beach dining to all of the restaurants on the property for dinner.
Breakfast at FS Costa Rica:

Every morning, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo offered an incredible breakfast at their Bahia restaurant ranging from sweet dishes like Belgian waffles to savory meals such as huevos rancheros.
During both of our mornings at Four Seasons Costa Rica, Caitlin and I enjoyed sipping their tropical drinks, smoothies and Costa Rican coffee as well as savoring the Belgian waffles, fruit platter, breadbasket, eggs and açai bowls.
Everything was incredible and there was nothing better than eating breakfast with pool and bay views! (Bahia restaurant is near the Blanca Pool and Playa Blanca.)
Lunch at Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo:

During our time relaxing at Playa Virador one afternoon, Caitlin and I ordered delicious poke plates for lunch. The poke at this exclusive Peninsula Papagayo resort was absolutely incredible! Caitlin enjoyed the tuna poke with fries and I had the salmon poke with chips and it did not disappoint!
What is nice about the pool and beach service is that the staff members will come around frequently to make sure you are content and will ask if you need any food or drinks. Everything you order will be charged directly to your room.
Dinner at Four Seasons Costa Rica:

On our first evening at Four Seasons Costa Rica, Caitlin and I savored a lovely dinner at Bahia restaurant. This wood-fired open kitchen features a locally sourced menu with mouthwatering items.
For drinks, I had the mezcal that was crafted perfectly from the restaurantβs bar and Caitlin had a rosΓ©. After that, we savored two appetizer dishes; the wild mushroom flatbread and guacamole with tortilla chips and crispy plantains. Everything was delicious!

My main meal was the lobster tail and Caitlin had the grilled whole fish, which was a red snapper. We also savored two sides, the coconut rice and beans along with the lobster mashed potatoes! All of the dishes we had were to die for.
We were in the mood for Italian on our second evening at Four Seasons and made a reservation at Pesce, which features a classic Italian fare with an extensive wine list. I had the Aperol spritz and Caitlin had an Argentinian Malbec.

For our main meals, I had the spaghetti allβastice, which consisted of spaghetti chitarra and lobster meat in a lobster bisque sauce with confit cherry tomatoes. Caitlin savored risotto asparagi e gamberi, which consisted of carnaroli risotto, asparagus cream, prawns and lime. We also enjoyed gelato for dessert. Everything was incredible!
Enjoy the Three Pools at this Amazing Papagayo Hotel:

What is great about staying at Four Seasons Costa Rica is that there are a variety of activities to choose from and great places to relax from the beach to the pool.

Whenever I am staying at a resort that offers a beach and a pool, I love to go back and forth between both. At this exclusive resort on Peninsula Papagayo, there are three pools for you to choose from including a beautiful hot tub with waterfalls.

The Bahia Pool is located at the center of the resort, near the La Reserva Bar, where you can grab a signature cocktail and light snack while enjoying time in the sun. Next, the Blanca Pool is another stunning pool that overlooks Playa Blanca, which is the bay beach! Lastly, Four Seasons also has an adults-only pool called Serena Pool that overlooks Playa Virador, which is the resortβs sunset beach. (There is also a kiddie pool as well.)

No matter which pool you decide to relax or swim at, they are all spacious, refreshing and also offer lounge seating. There are also staff members all around who will set up your lounge seat with a towel and accommodate you if you’re in need of food, drinks, etc.
Relax at the Two Papagayo Beaches at Four Seasons:

Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo also has two exclusive beaches that you can enjoy. The first beach is on the Pacific Ocean and itβs called Playa Virador. It is known as the resortβs sunset beach. (You cannot miss out on seeing the sunset here! It was absolutely magical and we even witnessed an engagement proposal.) To me, it was the best Papagayo beach!
The second beach at Four Seasons Costa Rica is Playa Blanca, which is located on the bay. No matter which beach you decide to relax at, you have the choice to rent a cabana at an extra cost. It is perfect for couples or even if youβre solo and want to treat yourself to an added luxury.

Just like at the pool, there will be staff members on the beaches who can assist you with anything you need. Both Caitlin and I enjoyed sunbathing at Playa Virador during our time at Four Seasons Costa Rica.
Adventure through the Trail of Giants on Peninsula Papagayo:

The coolest adventure that we did during our stay at Four Seasons Costa Rica was the Trail of Giants Tour, where we took a golf cart tour around Peninsula Papagayo.
During this amazing tour, we got to explore the dry jungle and learn about the biodiversity there. We also got to see different trees, plant life and wildlife such as monkeys! It was so cool.

During this private tour, we also got to ride around the famous golf course, which is an Arnold Palmer course and admire breathtaking costal and bay views of Peninsula Papagayo! Overall, it was a very educational experience.
Treat Yourself to a Well-Needed Spa Morning at FS Costa Rica Peninsula Papagayo:

Another reason why our stay at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo was so special was because we were treated to an amazing spa morning at the hotelβs exclusive spa.
We both had our own rainforest massage, which was relaxing and well needed, especially for my body! Overall, this massage allows you to set an intention and you will select a customized essential oil from the spaβs collection. From there, you will fill out a form and let your masseuse know if you want a relaxing or deep therapeutic pressure massage.
During the rainforest massage, the fragrances from the essential oil will respond to your mind, body and spiritual needs. It is amazing!
Prior to our massage, we were given a comforting robe and spent some time in the heated and cool pools that overlooked the bay and dry jungle. We also got to enjoy the sauna as well!
After our massage, we were given our own private space to relax at where we were provided with a ginger drink, raw cacao and fresh water. It was absolutely perfect!
