Mount Snow in Vermont is a great weekend getaway that offers the best winter activities for anyone who loves to ski and snowboard in the New York City and Boston areas.
With a long winter in the northeast of the United States, I recommend making the most out of it by planning a well-needed and fun ski weekend in beautiful Vermont.
One of the many hobbies I LOVE is skiing in the winter months. I learned how to snowboard at a small ski mountain in my hometown called Campgaw Mountain when I was nine years old.
For some reason, the whole being tied down to a snowboard and unable to move my legs was not up my alley, so a friend of mine and her dad taught me how to ski when I was 12 years old, and I fell in love with it! I remember it only took me two and a half days on the bunny slope to finally make my way to the giant hill.
Once I successfully made my way down without breaking a bone, I became hooked and got a season pass. The rest is history!

Even if you don’t ski, all winter sports are fantastic to get into, and it gives you a reason to look forward to December through March – months many people dread.
I am stoked to share one of my favorite resorts that offer some of the best skiing in the Northeast – Mount Snow in West Dover, Vermont!

Traveling to VT in Winter:
Since Mount Snow is located in Southern Vermont in the Green Mountains, it is around a 3-hour drive to get there from New York City and Boston.
Before you go, I highly recommend renting a car to get there (preferably an SUV or a larger vehicle since road conditions could be pretty harsh due to all of the snow).
If you are flying, the closest major airport to Mount Snow is Albany International Airport in the capital of New York. (You could find affordable flights through Skyscanner
.)
Looking for an RV for your next trip, reserve here!
Where to Stay at Mount Snow Resort:

There are plenty of hotels and accommodations both on the premises of Mount Snow resort and within the surrounding areas. In addition, there are also a variety of rental options too.
I recommend staying at Mount Snow so that you don’t have to travel far to the resort and everything is right there (the slopes, restaurants, bars, activities, etc.)
So that you know, the surrounding area is desolate and you want to be surrounded by the fun activities of the ski resort.
Mount Snow offers a plethora of lodging options. The Grand Summit Resort Hotel is a luxury accommodation option at Mount Snow and is located at the mountain’s entrance.
Other great accommodations that range from mid-budget to budget options are Snow Lake Lodge, Shearer Hill Farm Bed & Breakfast, Austrian Haus Lodge
, Big Bears Lodge
, Colonial Motel and Spa
, Cooper Hill Inn
, Deer Valley Inn
, Gray Ghost Inn
, Inn at Quail Run
, Kitzhof Inn
, Lodge at Mount Snow
, Mountaineer Inn
, Old Red Mill Inn, Putney Inn
and The White House Inn

Mount Snow Things to do: The Best Winter Activities in Vermont
Mount Snow Mountain in Vermont:

Located in the beautiful Green Mountains of Southern Vermont, Mount Snow is a great place to visit on the East Coast as it boasts seven incredible mountains that feature countless trails for all ages and levels. Mount Snow also offers memorable winter activities!
Like most ski resorts, Mount Snow offers a bunny hill with a magic carpet that is great for beginners and young children to learn how to ski and take private lessons. Once a beginner graduates the bunny hill, there are numerous mid-way trails to take their ski and snowboard skills to the next level.
In addition, Mount Snow tubing is perfect for those who either aren’t into winter sports or would like to take a fun break from the mountain.
Mount Snow has some of the best downhill skiing trails in New England. All the slopes’ difficulty levels are based on color and shape. The green circle trails are the more accessible and flatter slopes; the blue square trails are a little windier, narrow and steeper, making them perfect for intermediate skiers; the black diamonds are mainly steep and narrow, making it a fun trail for more advanced skiers and the double diamonds are for expert ski and snowboarders.
The Main Face is precisely what its name says. This mountain is where the main ski lift (the Bluebird Express) is located that goes from the bottom, where the Main Base Lodge is, to the Summit Lodge and The Bullwheel.
The Main Face makes it easy for all levels to meet up and enjoy the slopes. The mountain also offers learning areas for the Mount Snow Ski & Snowboard School.

Sunbrook is my favorite mountain at Mount Snow. This beautiful mountain offers great scenic trails and you can get the best sunset views!
I also love this mountain because it is the quietest and most serene. The chairlifts are smaller, so people with large groups and families tend to stay near the Main Face. What is even more incredible is that the chairlifts will play music while you are on them, making it even more of a peaceful adventure. Most of the slopes on Sunbrook are blue squares with one black diamond.
If you are an advanced skier or are just looking for an adventure or thrill riding down the slopes, Northface is the perfect mountain. It consists of black diamond trails and one blue slope.
Many of the trails on Northface are kept un-groomed; you can find moguls if you are looking to ski freestyle and the only double diamond of Mount Snow can be found on this mountain.
You can even find some of the steepest terrain in the Northeast of the USA on Northface. It usually takes me a few rounds on the blues to make it to this area, but when skiing down the terrain, I always have a blast and enjoy the views of the beautiful evergreen trees of the Green Mountain National Forest.
If you want to pull a Shaun White or get adventurous, Carinthia is the perfect mountain. This fun mountain, located in the heart of the Green Mountains, boasts 100 acres of terrain parks with rails, jumps, creative lines, tree-skiing zones and the superpipe.
If you’re an expert snowboarder and skier, you will love Carinthia! My friend and I would usually do a few rounds in this area, jumping off the mini jumps and cruising through the half pipe. (Nothing too crazy though.)
Depending on when you visit Mount Snow, a regular adult lift ticket (ages 18-64) ranges from $129 to $100 USD; a child’s ticket (ages 7-17) costs anywhere from $98 to $76 USD and senior tickets (ages 65 and older) costs anywhere from $114 to $88 USD. If you ski multiple times a year, I suggest purchasing the EPIC Pass, which gives you access to all Vail Resorts, like Park City, during the winter season.
Mount Snow Activities:

One of the most epic things to do near Mount Snow is to enjoy the winter activities at Timber Creek! You can go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and hiking this winter season. There is something for the whole family to enjoy!
Since Vermont is on the snow belt, the weather on the slopes can get down to negative 20 degrees on some days. Not only do I suggest wearing the right snow gear (I have outfit suggestions below), but I also recommend getting hand and feet warmers. You could find them at the mountain’s base in the gift shop. It’s also essential to cover all exposed skin to prevent frostbite.
Food and Après Ski at Mount Snow:

One of the most fun parts of a ski weekend is the après ski, also known as the “after ski” in French. It generally refers to all of the social activities that take place post-skiing.
After a day skiing the slopes at Mount Snow, we enjoy grabbing a delicious Vermont brew at The Bullwheel, located at the Summit Lodge and the Station Tap Room, located at the Main Base Lodge.
Later in the evening, after we finish skiing for the day, we like to join the party and liveliness at Cuzzins Bar & Grill. This great sports bar has fantastic live music, which gets everyone up and dancing. It is the best way to end a day of fun adventures and activities at Mount Snow.
Other great places to enjoy après ski at Mount Snow, Vermont are High Timber Lounge, which is located in the Carinthia Base Lodge and Snow Barn at the shore of Snow Lake. The difference between Snow Barn and the other two locations is that it offers dancing, live music and one of the best late night scenes at Mount Snow.
For lunch, we don’t usually like to eat the lodge food, which is primarily burgers, chicken nuggets, hot dogs and pizza (aka kid food), so we like to grab warm and delicious Belgian waffles with chocolate at Waffle Cabin. Other fantastic places to enjoy good food and drinks at Mount Snow are 1900′ Burger, Harriman’s Pub & Kitchen and Iron Loft.
Another one of the best things to do at Mount Snow in the winter is to have a campfire. Nothing is more relaxing and comforting than being around a fire on a cold winter night. Many Mount Snow resorts and nearby rental properties have fire pits to warm up to.
Mount Snow also has a spa called Naturespa at Grand Summit Hotel. You can enjoy many massages, facial services, a hot tub, saunas, body wraps and more at this relaxing sanctuary.
Winter Activities in Vermont:

After a fun-filled day of skiing, there is nothing like enjoying a nice dinner in nearby Wilmington, Vermont, located 10 minutes from the ski resort.
This downtown New England village offers a warm and welcoming downtown area with colonial houses, gas lamps, great restaurants and fun bars.
Every time I go to Mount Snow, we enjoy having dinner at The Roadhouse – a Vermont farmhouse-inspired restaurant with fresh and local food.
The Roadhouse is the perfect place to warm up on a cold winter’s night. They have a massive stone fireplace you can sit near and capture the heat; Christmas lights fill the interior; every table has scented candles and the food is delicious and hearty.
There are a variety of great places to eat in downtown Wilmington and there is also a great selection of bars as well.
In addition to great dining places and bars, Wilmington also offers a variety of great breakfast and brunch spots to start your day before hitting the slopes.
Another restaurant I love to eat at near Mount Snow is a farm-fresh comfort diner called Jezebel’s Eatery. This incredible place is unlike typical all-American diners; it is a farmhouse with warm details and a New England ambiance. Plus, the food is delicious!

Overall, I love mini ski trips in the wintertime to Vermont. It is relaxing, peaceful and a great way to meditate, stay active and make great memories.
In addition to Mount Snow, Stratton Mountain is also in the Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley area. Further north in Vermont, you can find some of the East Coast’s most renowned ski resorts, such as Killington Resort, Okemo Mountain Resort
, Stowe Mountain Resort
, Smuggler’s Notch Resort
and more!
