A woman having a memorable experience at an all inclusive in Jamaica

With the rise in Caribbean travel in 2020 and 2021, I had the opportunity to stay at my first all inclusive resort. The first time I had a memorable all inclusive experience was at Divi All Inclusive in Aruba during October 2020. The second time I stayed at an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean was in Montego Bay, Jamaica for my cousin’s destination wedding.

During early June 2021, my family and I traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica for four days in the sun and sand. It was my first time on this beautiful Caribbean Island, along with my brother’s and dad’s. My mom had traveled to Negril, Jamaica before for Hedonism when she was in college.

Memorable experience at an all inclusive resort in Jamaica

Overall, Jamaica is a beautiful island in the West Indies. It is the third largest island in the Caribbean after Cuba and Hispaniola (the island of Haiti and Dominican Republic). The primary language in Jamaica is English followed by Jamaican Creole. It is a stunning country with some of the friendliest people in the world and the culture in Jamaica is fascinating!

Since our trip to Jamaica was for a destination wedding, we mainly spent our time relaxing and having fun at the all inclusive resort we stayed at called Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall in Montego Bay. I will admit that the idea of staying at an all inclusive hotel never desired my interests since I am someone who enjoys exploring around and eating at local restaurants, but after this year, I have learned to appreciate everything that these wonderful accommodations have to offer for those just looking to rest, relax and have a good time.

My family and I got the rt-PCR test done within 72 hours prior to our departure back to the United States at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall. What is great about staying at Hyatt hotels are that they conduct both the PCR and Antigen tests for FREE! The test is done in a conference room at the resort.

Getting to an All Inclusive in Jamaica:

Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall

Traveling to Jamaica was easy from the New York City area. We flew from Newark International Airport in New Jersey straight to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. (You can find great flight deals through Skyscanner.)

We traveled to and from the airport via the private shuttle that is run by Hyatt Ziva & Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall. Since we were staying at an all inclusive and didn’t leave the property at all during our stay, we didn’t have to worry about transportation to travel around. If you plan to explore the country, I recommend either renting a car, taking a taxi or using the Jamaica Urban Transit Company. A lot of tour companies offer pick up services as well!

It’s perfect for honeymoons, destination weddings, couples’ getaways, family vacations and friends’ trips. Before you book though, it is important to do your research to see what all inclusive resort works best for you and those in your party.

Family at an all inclusive destination wedding

How it works is that you pay a specific rate, based on what resort you choose to stay at, and that price includes your room; ALL meals and snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (usually by the glass, not by the bottle) and activities that the hotel offers!

Depending on the resort, sometimes spa treatments, private pool and beach cabanas, transportation to and from the airport and off-property excursions are included, but most of the time they are not. Anything you purchase at the resort’s gift shop are usually not included in the all inclusive rate as well.

Two women enjoying a coconut and having a memorable time at Hyatt Ziva All Inclusive in Montego Bay

What makes staying at an all inclusive a memorable experience is that the resort usually offers several restaurants and eateries onsite; there are usually bars in and around the resort, including a pool and beach bar; there is usually a party during the day and also at night; there are plenty of activities to enjoy on the property and there are also a plethora of spots to lounge at and relax. There is always something for everyone and every age group to enjoy!

My Memorable Experience Staying at an All Inclusive in Montego Bay:

A woman at a destination wedding at an all inclusive in Montego Bay, Jamaica

Like I talk about above, during my Jamaica trip for my cousin’s destination wedding, my family and I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall. It is considered a family all-inclusive resort. The sister hotel right next door, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, is considered an adults-only all inclusive resort, which is for anyone ages 18 and older.

As a travel blogger, most of my trips have been based around me getting content for both my blog and social media. I haven’t been on a vacation in a LONG TIME where I got to chill out and simply enjoy my time without worrying about work. My all inclusive vacation in Jamaica was everything I needed!

Ocho Rios in Jamaica

I spent four days and three nights in Montego Bay and it was the perfect amount of time. Unless I am out exploring different areas, it is honestly hard for me to spend more than that amount of time vegging out. Some people can spend two full weeks just relaxing in the sun, but for my adventurous soul, I need to do other things as well.

Even if you book an all inclusive stay, you can still leave the property and do a memorable day or night excursion or experience either through the resort or a third party like TripAdvisor. Some of the best things to experience in Jamaica are Dunn’s River Falls & Park, Konoko Falls, The Turtle River Falls & Gardens, Island of Gully Falls, Green Grotto Caves and Cool Blue Hole near Ocho Rios. Other cool things to do is visit the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, go cliff diving in Negril, zipline and more!

Bioluminescence in Montego Bay, Jamaica

One of the most epic things to do in Jamaica that you can book through Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall are to see the bioluminescence at Luminous Lagoon in Montego Bay. The Luminous Lagoon in Jamaica is home to millions of dinoflagellates, which are microscopic organisms. At nighttime, the lagoon sparkles and glistens when it is disturbed with boats or humans.

Overall, the Luminous Lagoon is the largest and most brilliant of the five bioluminescent lagoons in the world. The other four are Laguna Grande, La Parguera and Mosquito Bay in Puerto Rico and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. You can also see bioluminescence in other parts of the world during different times of the year. I really wish I had the time and opportunity to visit Luminous Lagoon during my time in Montego Bay. I guess I’ll have to make my way back to Jamaica at some point!

What to do at an All Inclusive:

A woman having a memorable time at an all inclusive in Jamaica

During my time at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, I spent most of my time relaxing at the three pools and the resort’s beach! The pool bar offered a lot of great tropical drinks ranging from piña coladas to Miami Vice’s and strawberry daiquiris to margaritas. Since it is an all inclusive resort, you can keep going back for more. There are also staff members that walk around taking orders if you are lounging and don’t want to get up. (Just ensure you drink responsibly!)

At the pool, there is a DJ during the day and the staff members at the resort organize games, contests and dance parties for all ages so that guests can have fun and share some laughs.

A father and daughter having a memorable experience at an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean

The beach at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall was beautiful and relaxing. The sand was powder white and there were various lounge chairs for you to sit at or lay down either in the sun or in the shade. What was also nice about the beach at Hyatt was that there was a lagoon swimming area where you can cool off in peace. There are also rocks blocking the waves coming from the sea, making it perfect for everyone looking to cool off and it is also a safe spot for families with little kids!

In addition to relaxing at the pool and beach, Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara also have kayaks, catamarans, boogie boards and snorkeling gear for you to use whenever you want to explore the Caribbean Sea, right from the resort. There is also a fitness facility that you can use for free and the resort has fitness classes, aquatic workouts and beachfront yoga for you to enjoy anytime. Just check the schedule to see when these classes are being offered.

There are also ping-pong tables, beach volleyball and pool basketball courts. If you have kids, there is a free KidZ Club, for children ages 3-12, that acts like a babysitting service if you’re looking to enjoy a romantic date night with your partner or have fun with friends. All of these free activities are what makes a memorable all inclusive experience for everyone!

(Don’t forget to bring reef safe sunscreen for your outdoor adventures in Jamaica!)

Eating at an All Inclusive:

A tropical drink from an all inclusive resort in Montego Bay

Like I mentioned above, meals are also included in an all inclusive package. During our time at Hyatt in Montego Bay, we ate at an Asian fusion restaurant, an Italian restaurant and of course at the wedding itself. All of the food we consumed during our trip was delicious and what is great about eating at an all inclusive resort is that you can get a full course meal – drinks by the glass, an appetizer, main course, sides and a dessert and it’s all included in your package!

Olive oil cake from Di Roza at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

A memorable all inclusive experience also includes breakfast and at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, there was a great all-you-can-eat buffet every morning. You can choose traditional American breakfast items, Jamaican food, vegetarian and vegan dishes, fresh tropical fruit and juices, cold cuts, pastries and more. They even serve mimosas!

Jerk chicken and a coconut from Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

During the day, there is a jerk chicken hut by the pool and beach for you to savor at lunchtime! In case you’ve never had jerk chicken before, it is a spicy grilled meat that is served with either a hot or sweet sauce and it also comes with Jamaican red beans and coconut rice. It is delicious! (The first time I ever had jerk chicken was when I visited Secrets Jamaica in Ocean City, Maryland in May 2015. That was when I fell in love with this dish.)

Memorable experience at an all inclusive

All throughout the day, you can enjoy this amazing delicacy! (You can also get this Jamaican staple dish with a fresh coconut and add rum, if you want. Please note that if you decide to get a coconut, whether it be with alcohol or not, it is an extra cost at Hyatt Ziva and Zilara.)

Donut bar foot cart at Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall

Throughout our four days in Montego Bay, there was a “festival” going on at Hyatt. At the festival, there was a stage set up where talented live Jamaican performances were going on (and they even brought people up on stage too to make it fun) as well as food carts that featured a donut cart, jerk chicken cart, tropical drink cart and more. This all took place near Hyatt Ziva’s restaurants so that people can enjoy a treat and have fun after their dinner. The resort also had fire pits on the property too!

Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall All Inclusive Resort

At night, there is so much fun to be had at Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara. At Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, there is an outdoor open-aire bar, pub and piano bar to enjoy and at Hyatt Zilara, there is a nightclub for those who are 18 years and older to dance the night away.

If you’re on a romantic escape with your partner, both the Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara also offer private beachfront dining at an additional cost!

Great for large groups and for people who really enjoy their food and drink ~ 👍🙌 Can’t wait to go back and visit again ~ loved the beach, refreshing pools, entertainment and super friendly staff! I totally agree that we love to go out and explore…however, we have 4 small kids and every once in a while, an all-inclusive is just SO convenient and easy! And they really are a lot of fun! We love Ziva hotels, they always have great food 🙂

    • Taylor Deer on June 19, 2021 at 11:02 pm

Yes! It’s absolutely perfect for families. I loved staying at Hyatt Ziva! They offer so much. 🙂

Thank you for this post! I’m taking my 18 year old daughter for a mom-daughter vacay before she heads to college this fall. I’m curious about the differences in the Ziva and Zilara, and have been thinking we should go to the adult resort so we wouldnt be around children. Do you have thoughts on how those two compare? Thanks

    • Taylor Deer on June 27, 2021 at 9:43 pm

You’re welcome! So the Ziva is a family all-inclusive and the Zilara is adults only all-inclusive. Both are great, but you definitely won’t be around children at Zilara. It’s only 18 years and older to be there and at the pools and facilities. The Zilara definitely attracts a lot of couples and bachelor/bachelorettes. 🙂

It really was such an awesome place! All inclusive resorts are great for anyone. Love how you can get unlimited food and drinks lol.

Thank you mom! I love you too. xoxo

I totally agree that we love to go out and explore…however, we have 4 small kids and every once in a while, an all-inclusive is just SO convenient and easy! And they really are a lot of fun! We love Ziva hotels, they always have great food 🙂

Thanks
