The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

During my time on the South Island, I based myself in Queenstown for two weeks where I participated in fun, boutique activities throughout the city and did wonderful day trips to the breathtaking natural wonders New Zealand offers. Based in the heart of Queenstown is the lovely, warm and relaxing Browns Boutique Hotel! If you are looking for a taste of Europe in Queenstown, Browns is the perfect place to stay.

The Friendly Ambiance at Browns Boutique Hotel:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Staying at Browns Boutique Hotel felt like a fairytale to me. There was nothing better than waking up in the morning and being able to walk out of my very OWN balcony that overlooks the mountains and downtown Queenstown. My favorite part of staying at Browns was how welcomed I felt by the owners and staff! Throughout my stay, co-owner Peter-Ray would walk around, have a friendly conversation with guests and ensure they were comfortable. We even had a great chat over some morning tea one day. That is what I enjoy about staying at boutique hotels, they are so authentic and it allows you to feel at home right from the moment you check in.

The Luxurious Rooms at Browns Boutique Hotel:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

During my stay at Browns Boutique Hotel, I was hosted in their Superior King Room, which was located on the top floor of the hotel. My room had absolutely breathtaking views of The Remarkables Mountain range and all of Queenstown. It was such a dream!

Since all of the rooms have French doors that open up to Juliet balconies, I got to enjoy mine in the morning as I was getting ready, later in the afternoon before sunset and also in the evening. As a travel blogger, I cannot log off when I am on a trip, so being able to get some work done with a view was definitely something I couldn’t complain about! Having this balcony in my room also made me not want to leave the hotel at all. That is how much I loved it!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

In regards to the room itself, I adored the summery color of the walls, all of the European-style décor and the large, tiled bathroom! In addition, the details were also so welcoming. I liked how comforting the embroidered towels were. I also loved how the bathroom came with large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash specifically crafted for guests.

The room itself was pretty spacious! I loved how I was able to store my large luggage in there and still have so much room to walk around. I also enjoyed how clean and comfortable the Superior King bed was. I seriously felt like royalty here!

To top it all off, each room comes with a 32” LED Flatscreen Smart HD TV, DVD player, bedside phone, WiFi, refrigerators with complimentary chilled water and fresh milk, coffee and tea makers, home baked biscuits and snacks, bathrobes, iron and ironing boards and personal hair dryers.

Browns Boutique Hotel Facilities:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

In addition to being a boutique, luxury hotel, Browns is also a bed and breakfast! Every morning, guests could gather in the dining room and enjoy a continental as well as a crafted breakfast made just for them!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Located in the dining room, is a menu that features all of the home cooked breakfast meals of the day. On my first morning, I enjoyed delicious pancakes (known as hot cakes in New Zealand) with fresh fruit and maple syrup. The second morning was where I enjoyed a savory breakfast with mushrooms, chorizo, caramelized onions and spinach. Everything was amazing! The savory breakfast also came with cheese, but since some cheeses make me sick, I was able to get my dish catered to my dietary needs. In addition to an included breakfast, coffee, tea and water is always up for grabs in the dining room. On my first day at Browns, one of the receptionists baked a delicious chocolate cake that was available for guests to enjoy in the afternoon as well!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Browns also has a beautiful living room area where you could read, relax and get some work done. There is also an outdoor patio with beautiful views, a fireplace to warm up to and a large chessboard to have some fun!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

When it comes to check in/check out, it is super easy! All you do when you first arrive is enter the front door, which is always open from 7am to 8pm, walk down the stairs and the reception desk is right there. You could leave your luggage on the main floor because the staff will bring it to your room, which is so nice since there aren’t any elevators. After you sign in, you will be given a key that will get you into your room, the front door after hotel hours and the back gate that leads into town. One thing to note about the back gate is that you could still access it after hotel hours, but you will need to walk to the front of the building to get into the front door. The French doors that lead out to the patio from the living room area lock after a certain time too. If you arrive to the hotel after 8pm and need assistance, there is a doorbell that will alert the co-owner. When it comes to check out, you will just need to return your key to the receptionist.

During your time at Browns Boutique Hotel, you could ask anyone who works there for assistance on booking tours, spa treatments, restaurant reservations and so much more. Peter-Ray is a great source for discovering the most unforgettable things to do on the South Island. Below is a list of everything I did during my stay in Queenstown:

A Spa Morning at The Spa at Nugget Point:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

One of the most memorable mornings in Queenstown was receiving a spa treatment on my last day before I made my 35-hour trek home. It was everything my body needed at the time and the services and facilities were amazing!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Located in the Arthurs Point area is the Nugget Point Queenstown Hotel, which offers a boutique and luxurious ambiance. Situated in the hotel is The Spa at Nugget Point, where I enjoyed my self-care morning. (One thing to note is that since I was heading to the airport from Nugget Point, they were so kind enough to store my luggage behind the front desk.)

I am a firm believer in self-love and taking care of your body. There was really no better way than ending my two-week trip to New Zealand than with a replenishing and rejuvenating spa morning here. I always dreamt of receiving a spa treatment right before a long flight and I was so happy that The Spa at Nugget Point was able to provide me with a well-needed massage.

The Spa at Nugget Point is a peaceful haven where mind, body and spirit unite. It is also the perfect place for solo travelers, couples (both adventurers and honeymooners), families, girls’ getaways and more. This beautiful space is situated in a breathtaking Alpine setting overlooking the Shotover River. Whether you are getting a relaxing massage or are enjoying the amazing facilities, there are large windows everywhere for you to take in the view.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

I loved how beautiful and clean the Spa was! There are modern versions of the Roman baths, a mosaic pool, marbled plunge bath, steam room, sauna, stunning rose mosaic showers and several lounge areas (both inside and outside) to relax and enjoy the views.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

When it comes to the services that The Spa at Nugget Point offers, you could get a Relaxation, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports or Pregnancy massage based on what your needs are. You could also combine your massage with an hour long facial, followed by a manicure and pedicure. Overall, The Spa at Nugget Point is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a relaxing day during your time in Queenstown.

Boutique Wine Tour through Central Otago:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

During my time in Queenstown, I found the perfect wine tour through Airbnb’s Experience section. Even though I booked the tour through Airbnb, Almohad ran the tour itself.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

The wine tour was around 5.5 hours and we made our way to four different wineries in the Central Otago wine region. (I will admit that these wineries were definitely some of the most beautiful places I’ve been to. Keep in mind; I have done so many wine tastings around the world!) Our tour guide Vicky, a local Kiwi, was extremely knowledgeable and ensured we had a blast! If you are planning on visiting New Zealand’s South Island, I highly recommend making your way to the breathtaking Central Otago region where you could enjoy amazing wines from Riesling to Rosé and Pinot Gris to Pinot Noir.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

As part of the tour, I got picked up at Browns Boutique Hotel in a luxury Mercedes van. I was the last pick up of the tour, so everyone was already in the car. From there, we made our way to Stoneridge Estate in Frankton – our first winery of the day!

Stoneridge Estate:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Located in the Frankton area of Central Otago, Stoneridge Estate is known to be one of the top boutique lodges in Queenstown. It sits amidst 12 acres of picturesque gardens and vineyards with gorgeous views of Lake Hayes and Coronet Peak.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

The Cellar Door and Gardens of Stoneridge Estate are absolutely breathtaking! During our time here, we got to taste award-winning wines. We sampled a series of Pinot Noirs and aromatic whites from the boutique vineyards. Even though we didn’t have food at Stoneridge Estate, you could also do a food and wine pairing.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

The grounds of Stoneridge Estate were absolutely gorgeous! The gardens included lavender, roses, honeysuckle and other beautiful plants. This winery is also the perfect place to get married! There is a beautiful stone chapel located right in the gardens and outside of it is a beautiful pond with waterfalls and benches to relax. It is super romantic!

Carrick Winery:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

The next stop on the wine tour was to Carrick Winery in Bannockburn. As another picturesque winery, Carrick offers breathtaking mountain and lake views.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Back in the early 1990s, Barbara and Steve Green opened Carrick Winery and placed an emphasis on sustainable grape growing and winemaking. Carrick Winery is now fully organic!

During our tasting, we tried five of Carrick’s wines, including two of their renowned Pinot Noirs. In addition, we got to Carrick around lunch time, so we enjoyed an amazing meat and cheese platter with fresh fruit and bread, dips and spreads, smoked salmon, mussels and a vegetable frittata. It was so good!

Scott Base Vineyard:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Scott Base’s Space at the Base is a cozy and relaxed tasting room and outdoor patio situated in a gorgeous hillside vineyard in Cromwell. I love how welcoming this place was and there were also stringed lights hanging, making it a dreamy experience if you visit in the evening.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Not only could you do a great wine tasting here, they also offer a craft beer tasting as well. Even though the Queenstown area is also known for their craft beers, I still wanted to taste more wine, so I stuck to that. During the tasting, we tried more wines plus Champagne. If you did the beer tasting, you would have tasted a few brews with a cider.

Overall, Scott Base Vineyard was the perfect place to spend the afternoon.

Kinross Cottages:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

To end our time in the Central Otago wine region, our last visit was to Kinross Cottages in Gibbston. At this breathtaking winery, we tasted incredible wines, listened to the stories and histories behind both the wine itself as well as the vineyard and even tried their special red wine! It was absolutely wonderful.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Even though I was the only single girl with a bunch of honeymooners and middle-aged couples, I still had a blast on this boutique wine tour and made incredible memories with everyone!

During my time in Queenstown, I did paragliding, luging and jetboating and they were all a BLAST!

Paragliding:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Prior to coming to Queenstown, I knew that I wanted to participate in some epic adventures. The first thing on my bucket list was skydiving, but I was told that you are in the air for such a short time. To get the most for my money, I was recommended to do paragliding or handgliding since you get to enjoy being in the air for 25 minutes instead of a few seconds!

I booked my paragliding adventure through Coronet Peak Tandems located right in the heart of Queenstown. On the morning of my adventure, I was picked up right at the Coronet Peak Tandems office right on Camp Street along with a few others. We drove up to Arthurs Point, where we hopped off and switched vans based on the activity we were doing. During the second van ride, we drove with our pilots to the top of Coronet Peak’s ski resort where we would take off.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

My pilot was a nice man from Romania. He ensured I was prepared before take off by triple checking that I was properly strapped in and that I met the height and weight requirements. (New Zealand could be pretty strict when it comes to height and weight requirements for adventure activities.) One thing to note before paragliding or handgliding in New Zealand is to always wear warm clothes. Even though I traveled to New Zealand during the summertime, whenever there was a south wind, it would be blowing polar air, making it super chilly. I had on a sweatshirt and shorts and definitely was freezing in the air. I still had a blast though! (Ps. don’t forget to bring sunglasses since you will be doing twists and turns; they won’t fall off either. Click here to shop my sunglasses. Use code brown2019 for 10% off your order.)

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Prior to take off, we had to wait for the wind to die down. Once it did, we ran off the mountain and soared into the air! It seriously felt like we were flying! The views were incredible and I received such a high off of this adventure. My pilot was awesome and did some cool tricks, twists and turns. One thing to note prior to doing this is that it isn’t an adventure for someone who gets motion sickness easily. Thankfully, I do not get car sick, so I was fine doing all of this.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

We were up in the air for 25 minutes and landed smoothly in a green field at the bottom of the mountain. It was such an exciting experience!

Please note that paragliding and handgliding is weather dependent. If, for any reason, your adventure gets canceled due to the weather, you will be fully reimbursed.

Luging:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

One of the best things to do in Queenstown for all ages is the Skyline Luge at the top of Bob’s Peak.

In order for you to get to the top, you will need to take the Skyline Gondola. If you purchase luge tickets, your gondola ride will be included in the cost. Of course, you don’t have to go luging if you take the gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak. You could also go hiking, mountain biking or stargazing at night. In addition, there is a restaurant, eatery and bar for you to relax and enjoy a meal or drink with a view.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

The luge is a thrilling ride where everyone is in control. Once you get off the gondola, you will need to get a helmet and take the ski lift up to the top where the luge course begins. There are over 800 meters of banked corners, tunnels and dippers for you to enjoy. The course is also split into two: one for beginners and the other for advanced riders. I took the beginner course the first time and did the advanced course the rest of the time.

Even though Queenstown could be a bit expensive, the Skyline Luge is probably the most affordable for all. Since you can’t just go down the course once, the Skyline Luge has some great deals. You could either take it down twice, three times, five times or six times. I bought the six rounds because I was able to get the best for my dollar with it.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

When you are going down the course, you could enjoy the views, race your friends or try to out beat your time down from the previous rounds. It is such a blast.

The Skyline Gondola is only a short minute walk from downtown Queenstown. From there, you could decide if you want to go luging like I did. You do not need to book your tickets in advanced for this.

Shotover Jet:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Known as the world’s most thrilling jet boat ride is Queenstown’s Shotover Jet. When you travel to Queenstown, this is DEFINITELY something you cannot miss out on.

I purchased my tickets at the Shotover Jet office located on Camp Street downtown. It is recommended that you dress warm for this as well because you will be on glacial water that will splash on you.

From the Shotover Jet office, I got picked up in the Shotover Jet bus that took a few others and I to a spot along the Shotover River where we would be jetboating. Once we got there, we were given life jackets and simple directions. When we finally got onto the Shotover Jet, we zoomed through the most breathtaking canyons, did 360-degree spins on the bluest glacial water and our driver even got close to some of the canyon walls to make the experience even more thrilling!

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Overall, I had such a blast on the Shotover Jet! It was a 25-minute ride, but I could’ve done it again. Just like paragliding and handgliding, the Shotover Jet is also weather permitting. Right next to the Shotover Jet is a restaurant and bar that features indoor and outdoor seating. It was nice to enjoy a nice cider with a view after this fun adventure!

Enjoy the Waterfront in Queenstown:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Surrounded by Lake Wakatipu, there are so many wonderful things to do in Queenstown’s waterfront area.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

There is a nice beach area where you could lay your towel out and sunbathe; relax or read; swim (if it’s warm enough); feed the ducks; have a drink at the floating Perky’s Bar; enjoy an ice cream cone at Patagonia Ice Creamery & Chocolaterie or savor a meal or beverage at one of the nice restaurants.

Savor a Delicious Meal:

From seafood to Asian food and everything in between, Queenstown has some awesome restaurants that will leave your mouth watering. Here are the best places to eat in Queenstown:

Stroll Around Queenstown Gardens:

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Another great way to enjoy the beauty of Queenstown is by taking a stroll through Queenstown Gardens. To access the gardens, you will need to walk past the beach area and into the woods that offer beautiful trails.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Throughout the gardens are flowery blooms, serene ponds, stone bridges and charming benches to relax. There is greenery everywhere and it is where you will find locals hanging out with friends, getting work done or taking a nap.

The Best Things to do Boutique Style in Queenstown, New Zealand

Overall Queenstown is a super safe and clean city offering something for everyone! It is also the perfect destination for solo travelers. There is always someone looking to make a friend!

There is a beautiful stone chapel located right in the gardens and outside of it is a beautiful pond with waterfalls and benches to relax. It is super romantic!

Carrick Winery:

The next stop on the wine tour was to Carrick Winery in Bannockburn. As another picturesque winery, Carrick offers breathtaking mountain and lake views.

Scott Base’s Space at the Base is a cozy and relaxed tasting room and outdoor patio situated in a gorgeous hillside vineyard in Cromwell. I love how welcoming this place was and there were also stringed lights hanging, making it a dreamy experience if you visit in the evening.

To end our time in the Central Otago wine region, our last visit was to Kinross Cottages in Gibbston. At this breathtaking winery, we tasted incredible wines, listened to the stories and histories behind both the wine itself as well as the vineyard and even tried their special red wine! It was absolutely wonderful.

Even though I was the only single girl with a bunch of honeymooners and middle-aged couples, I still had a blast on this boutique wine tour and made incredible memories with everyone!

During my time in Queenstown, I did paragliding, luging and jetboating and they were all a BLAST!

Paragliding:

We were up in the air for 25 minutes and landed smoothly in a green field at the bottom of the mountain. It was such an exciting experience!

Please note that paragliding and handgliding is weather dependent. If, for any reason, your adventure gets canceled due to the weather, you will be fully reimbursed.

Luging:

One of the best things to do in Queenstown for all ages is the Skyline Luge at the top of Bob’s Peak.

In order for you to get to the top, you will need to take the Skyline Gondola. If you purchase luge tickets, your gondola ride will be included in the cost. Of course, you don’t have to go luging if you take the gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak. You could also go hiking, mountain biking or stargazing at night. In addition, there is a restaurant, eatery and bar for you to relax and enjoy a meal or drink with a view.

Throughout the gardens are flowery blooms, serene ponds, stone bridges and charming benches to relax. There is greenery everywhere and it is where you will find locals hanging out with friends, getting work done or taking a nap.
