A woman working on a blogging course in a hotel room during her travels

Wow! I don’t know why, but I have been holding off on writing this well needed blogging course and resource guide for so long. As I write this in June 2020, there is so much going on in the world and the travel community has been badly impacted, unfortunately. To say that it has been unfair for everyone looking to jumpstart their dream career in the travel world would be an understatement, but I believe that this industry will pick back up and things will be better than ever moving forward.

A woman paragliding in New Zealand

During spring 2020, the world stayed home and it allowed everyone to adopt new hobbies, set new goals, start new projects and even begin new careers, especially those within the digital world. I am a firm believer that in order to be successful, especially in a self-employed business, it is extremely important to invest in yourself! I have been blogging for over three years now, but have been doing it professionally and full time for over two. Since March 2017, I have been investing in different resources to help me become the successful blogger and female entrepreneur I aspire to be.

A woman happy to be learning from her blogging course during her travels

So far, I have taken a blogging course, did a blogging retreat, was a student in an Instagram bootcamp, took a Pinterest course, learned how to properly use SEO to grow my blog traffic, discovered the ins and outs of affiliate marketing, saw how to properly start a travel vlog, was exposed to the best ways on how to optimize your site in regards to speed, was taught how to properly brand my blog as well as edit photos and so much more. Every single course I took over the past few years have sincerely helped me grow my blog and brand and I 100 percent assure that they could help you as well. In this blog post, discover every blogging course and resource you need to be successful.

What Blogging Course Should You Invest in?

Nomadic Matt’s Superstar Blogging: The Business of Blogging

A group of bloggers having fun at TravelCon

Nomadic Matt is known as one of the most successful travel bloggers in the world and also someone I have been following since the beginning of my blogging journey. Matt once worked a corporate job, but left the cubicle in his mid 20s to become a nomad. He is now one of the top budget travel bloggers and is also known for his New York Times best-selling book “How to Travel the World on $50 a Day”. He also wrote the book called “Ten Years a Nomad” in celebration of being a blogger and digital nomad for over 10 years. Matt also has an online media school for those in the travel industry called Superstar Blogging and he also has a meetup program that is hosted in different cities throughout the world. In addition, Matt hosts a book club, has a community charity called FLYTE and also founded TravelCon, which is a travel conference that is hosted annually in different cities in the United States. Matt is originally from the Boston area, but currently lives in both New York City and Austin.

During late spring into early summer 2017, I purchased Superstar Blogging’s The Business of Blogging Course. I was introduced to Nomadic Matt when I first started guest blogging for my cousin’s travel agency called Crawford Concierge. In April 2017, I attended the NY Trav Fest and one of the Nomadic Matt travel meetups in New York City where I met Matt personally and he encouraged me to take his course. In all honesty, I had no idea how travel bloggers made money prior to taking The Business of Blogging course.

In The Business of Blogging Course, you will learn the fundamentals to building a reputable blog. You will also receive a deeper understanding and perspective on blogging; learn how to set up a functional WordPress site along with downloading the right plugins to help you generate traffic; write great content that people will benefit from; optimize your site; grow on social media; land press coverage; create an email list and monetize. As a student of Superstar Blogging, you also get access to weekly Q&A office hours, tech support, feedback and edits on blog posts, downloadable cheat sheets and there is also a private Facebook group.

I also took Superstar Bloggings’ Travel Vlogger course to help jumpstart a travel vlog on YouTube with top travel vloggers Kristen from Hopscotch the Globe and Nadine from Hey Nadine. Unfortunately, this course is no longer available, but I recommend keeping an eye out to see if it relaunches.

Becky Van Dijk of We Are Travel Girls: The Blogger Course

A woman enjoying her time during a blogging retreat in Bali

Becky Van Dijk is also a successful travel blogger and owner of the female community travel blog called We Are Travel Girls (WATG). Originally from England and now living in the Los Angeles area, Becky once worked in banking before she left her job to pursue travel blogging. She now has a 2+ million viewer female travel blog! Not only does We Are Travel Girls allow female travelers to guest blog on their site, they also share other women’s’ travel content on their community Instagram page. (Not to get confused, Becky runs two blogs, WATG and her very own.)

Not only does Becky run a community blog and Instagram account, she also hosts Travel Girls Getaways !(I attended Becky’s Morocco trip in April 2019 and it was amazing.) In addition, Becky offers free guides and travel resources, casual meetups around the world and community fundraising. During October 2018, I attended Becky’s blogging retreat in Bali and it was super beneficial for my business. Even after six months of full time blogging, I still was pretty clueless on the business aspect behind everything and how to monetize and support myself. Becky’s blogging retreat helped me grow my Instagram account to 10K followers only a month and a half after my trip to Bali; I also got my first high paid brand collaboration and was invited to my first press event.

Becky no longer hosts the blogging retreat in Bali, but has combined everything I learned during that educational week into The Blogger Course! The Blogger Course is only open during certain parts of the year so that you could receive one-on-one help with Becky herself. I recommend that you continue to look on Becky’s website and follow her personal Instagram account to see when her blogging course is open. Once it is open, use code TAYLOR10 for 10 percent off the course!

In The Blogger Course, you could discover a strategic roadmap that helps you brand, narrow your niche and create content that has intention; learn different monetization methods; grow your email list and subscribers; understand the basics of SEO and Pinterest, plus so much more. Becky has taken her very own blogging experience to create a structured plan to turn your blogging passion into a profitable business. The course itself comes with a blog business plan, video modules, 24 detailed eBooks and task checklists. Becky will also review your website and she also has a private Facebook group!

In addition to The Blogger Course, Becky offers one-on-one coaching, website building (alongside her husband Ryan of Salty Collective), SEO services, blog strategy calls as well as Pinterest strategy calls.

Christina Galbato: The Influencer Bootcamp

A woman taking content for her travel blog in New York City's Central Park

Christina Galbato is a luxury travel blogger and content creator as well as an influencer coach. Originally from the Seattle area, Christina now lives in New York City and once worked in the public relations agency world before leaving her job to pursue travel blogging. At first, Christina’s brand started off as a community travel account called The Bold Brunette until she rebranded and started her own personal luxury travel account and became a digital coach for aspiring online content creators.

In late fall 2018, I came across Christina’s account on Instagram and discovered her Instagram course, which is now called The Influencer Bootcamp. This course helped me in numerous ways, especially when it came to growing my Instagram account and community. She also helped me start monetizing on Instagram by teaching me how to work with different travel and lifestyle brands. In Christina’s Influencer Bootcamp, you will get access to a private Facebook group, several Adobe Lightroom photography presets, worksheets and more. She will help you establish a memorable brand; gather inspiration and create high quality content (even for those taking content solo); choose the right photography equipment and learn how to properly edit in Lightroom; write Instagram captions that provide value; create quality Instagram Stories; overcome algorithms, uncover the best engagement strategies; score brand collaborations; create a media kit; learn how much to charge and negotiate payment; pitch brands and create a relationship with PR agencies; notice red flags and manage everything altogether. Since completing Christina’s course, my Instagram followers went from 10K to 20K in just a few short months. I also started getting more high paying collaborations.

In addition to The Influencer Bootcamp, Christina also offers The Blog & Email List Bootcamp, How to Create & Sell Your First Online Course as well as a private mastermind called The Influence to Empire Mastermind. She will also begin hosting international retreats and will sometimes have a meetup in New York City. Christina also has a podcast called Her Life by Design where she talks about influencer marketing, creating a career online and being an ambitious female. (She will also host other successful female entrepreneurs on her podcast as well.)

During summer 2018, when I started to write more travel blogs that I wanted to get noticed, I took Pinterest with Ell. Prior to taking Ell’s course, I didn’t know how powerful Pinterest could be for all bloggers. This amazing and affordable Pinterest e-course will show you how to grow your blog traffic by increasing your blog pin click; how to create a click worthy pin and make it go viral; how to use Pinterest for affiliate marketing and monetizing; Pinterest SEO techniques; the importance of Tailwind – a powerful platform that allows you to pin in your sleep; how to create a business Pinterest account and branding. By using Ell’s strategies, my Pinterest monthly impressions started to grow by thousands. My Pinterest account currently generates over 800,000 monthly impressions!

During late spring/early summer 2019, I was looking for ways to become educated on SEO and to start optimizing my site for Google. I discovered Dana’s SEO course called Savvy in SEO through Ell Duclos who I talk about above. Because Ell was doing so well with her blog, I knew I had to go with her recommendation. I LOVED Dana’s SEO course! I literally went from not knowing a single thing about SEO to ranking on the first page of Google with some of my blog posts.

In Dana’s Savvy in SEO course, you will learn how SEO works; find the right keywords that will grow your subscribers, sales, affiliate income and traffic; outrank your competitors; where to place keywords while keeping your brand voice; how to avoid getting penalized by Google; ways to optimize your site speed and more. By being a student of Savvy in SEO, you will also get access to a private Facebook group that allows you to ask questions and gain support.

In Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing, you will learn why you shouldn’t skip out on affiliate marketing; how affiliate links work; the amount of traffic you need to start monetizing from affiliate links; how to determine what your audience wants; how to find the right affiliate programs for your brand and 80+ affiliate programs for different niches. You will also get access to a private Facebook group, worksheets, affiliate tracking spreadsheets and more. Shortly after completing Michelle’s amazing course, I earned my first $100 through affiliate marketing!

Make Traffic Happen: Speed Optimization the Easy Way

A woman walking on Train Street in Hanoi, Vietnam

Gemma and Laura are travel bloggers from the U.K. who offer SEO, social media and blogging advice to everyone looking to make a living as a blogger on Make Traffic Happen. They offer a great blogging course that helps content creators optimize their sites called SEO the Easy Way. Gemma and Laura also offer eBooks for purchase: Revive Old Content, which helps bloggers gain more traffic with the content they already have and Speed Optimization that helps WordPress users uncover speed-blocking issues.

I bought the Speed Optimization eBook, which dives into the common issues that affect speed; how to perform and read speed testing reports; how to fully optimize your site step-by-step; how to eliminate speed-blocking plugins; how to optimize and compress images; how to use a content delivery network like Cloudfare and how to optimize HTML, CSS and JavaScript. After completing this eBook and with the help of my developer, my site speed scores went from an E and F to a B and C. Increasing your site speed score will help you rank higher on Google and other major search engines.
