Best Places to Visit in September in Europe:

Amalfi Coast, Italy:
Located in Southern Italy, the Amalfi Coast is one of the best places to go in September for sun! In fact, I recommend following a thorough Amalfi Coast itinerary for 5 days! Both the Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre are also some of the best places to go in October for sun too!
During your time in Italy in September, I suggest visiting the city of Naples and the historic Pompeii! In Naples, you can admire impressive architecture from the Duomo di Napoli Cathedral to the seven castles.

Touring the archaeological site of Pompeii is fascinating! Situated between Naples and Sorrento, Pompeii is an ancient Roman city that was buried from a volcanic eruption that happened in 79 AD. Pompeii was rediscovered in the 18th Century and nowadays, travelers can wander through the ancient ruins and learn all about Roman history!
For foodies like me, you’ll appreciate the delicious cuisine this part of Italy is known for. In fact, you must try the world-famous pizzerias in Naples! I personally recommend Gino Sorbillo Artista Pizza and Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba.

Right off the Amalfi Coast is the island of Capri! It is still swimming weather during September and it’s one of the best sun holiday destinations in the world. The best way to explore Capri is by booking a private boat tour through Lubrense Boats.
With Lubrense Boats, you can see the famous Blue Grotto; swim in the sea; check out Faraglioni, which are Capri’s three towering sea stacks, and you can also get off the boat and explore the island!

The cliffside village of Positano is another must-see on the Amalfi Coast. Positano is home to the beautiful Spaggia Grande, which is an awesome beach to soak up sunshine and cool off in the Mediterranean. This popular seaside village also has authentic and delicious food and wine.
Additionally, Sorrento is a must-visit during an Amalfi Coast trip. It boasts great restaurants, gorgeous beaches and breathtaking views and architecture like you’d find in other Mediterranean destinations along the Italian coast.

Spending a beautiful September day in the Amalfi Coast villages of Amalfi, Atrani and Ravello are also some of the best destinations in September for holidays!
Dubrovnik, Croatia:
One of the best places to visit during September in the world is Dubrovnik, Croatia. Overall, there is a lot to scratch off your Dubrovnik bucket list as you explore the city. From visiting the Game of Thrones locations to wine and oyster tasting, the city of Dubrovnik is the best spot to walk around, get to know history and taste incredible food.

Cuisine in Dubrovnik ranges from Italian food to traditional Balkan dishes. The best restaurants to visit are Restaurant 360, Buffet Kamenice and Taj Mahal. You will not be disappointed by any of these spots!
When looking for things to do in Dubrovnik, you can take a stroll within the city walls and admire all the beautiful architecture and shops. On your stroll, you can’t miss Rector’s Palace, which is a museum that features breathtaking Renaissance and Gothic architecture. Next, view the impressive Roman Catholic, Baroque church, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Close by is Loggia Square, a popular Dubrovnik gathering spot where you can see the Church of St. Blaise, Sponza Palace and the famous Fountain of Onofrio. This fountain is a special piece of Dubrovnik history as it once was crucial to the city’s water system.
Reasons why Dubrovnik is one of the best places to go in September for sun is because it boasts a beautiful port and beaches to relax at. At the Old Port of Dubrovnik, you can enjoy a great view of the Adriatic Sea and watch the boats drift by on the water. Banje Beach is a fun beach club to sunbathe, swim and enjoy great cocktails in the city!

A trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia would also not be complete without a walk along the ancient city walls! This walk is full of gorgeous views of the entire city and was one of the most memorable experiences I had when I visited.
In addition, Game of Thrones lovers can do a GoT tour or discover filming locations on your own throughout the city. For a dragon’s eye view of Dubrovnik, I recommend taking a cable car up a local mountain.
Ljubljana, Slovenia:

Not only is Ljubljana one of the best places to go in September for sun filled days, it’s also the picturesque capital of Slovenia! A weekend in Slovenia from Venice is the perfect opportunity to enjoy beautiful weather, great local food and historical landmarks.
During your time in Ljubljana, I recommend staying at InterContinental Ljubljana, which is in a central location in the capital city. The rooftop bar at this luxury hotel will provide you with the best view of Old Town and the castle!

Within the city, there is a lot to see as you walk around and explore! Ljubljana, Slovenia also has delicious food to savor and great restaurants to enjoy. One of the best places to get authentic food is at the Odprta Kuhna, “open kitchen” food market that boasts different cuisines.
Another reason why Ljubljana, Slovenia is one of the best places to visit in September in Europe is because it’s around 40 minutes from the dreamy Lake Bled! This glistening lake makes for the perfect location for a September stroll. I also suggest hiking to Ojstrica for jaw dropping views of Bled!

At Bled, you can also take the Pletna, which is a traditional flat-bottomed boat to the quaint island, situated in the middle of the lake. On the island is a historic 17th Century church that features Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Bled Castle is also a fascinating spot to explore and you must also swim in the lake!
Visiting Predjama Castle also makes for a great day trip from the capital city. Predjama Castle is the world’s largest cave castle and it is located in Postojna Cave Park where you can also go hiking and enjoy other fun outdoor adventures!
Santorini, Greece:

The crescent-shaped island of Santorini, Greece is a gem on earth and is also one of the best holiday destinations in September for sun. In fact, fall is the best time to visit the Greek Islands in general because there are less crowds.
Overall, the weather in Santorini is beautiful during autumn and the island makes for one of the best beach holidays in September. I recommend visiting Perivolos Beach for its aqua-colored waters and picturesque black sand. Not only can you stroll along the shore and admire the stunning Aegean Sea, but you can also go for a relaxing swim! Kamari Beach is also an amazing location to catch some sun!

One of the most popular locations in Santorini, Greece is the village of Oia. It is iconic for its “Instagramable” blue dome rooftops. For wine lovers, you must do a tasting and enjoy the breathtaking views at Venetsanos Winery.
In addition, if you’re looking for some great adventure in Santorini, sailing to Akrotiri (the archaeological site that boasts the red beach) is a memorable experience! Fira is another area that cannot be missed out on. It offers incredible nightlife, restaurants and sunset viewing locations!
Sevilla, Spain:

Seville, Spain is a wonderful city and one of the best places for sun in September! The best things to do in Sevilla are within walking distance, which is great for an early fall trip.
Located in Andalusia, Sevilla features picturesque architecture. I recommend visiting the Catedral de Sevilla, which is the world’s largest Gothic cathedral! The Plaza de España is also a wonderful location to stroll through and admire.

A great sunset spot to enjoy during your September vacation is at Las Setas de Sevilla. It is a unique “mushroom-looking” building. Barrio Santa Cruz is another wonderful area to check out. It features pretty orange and pink buildings and offers a lot of great photo spots!
During your September trip to Sevilla, you cannot skip out on visiting the Royal Alcázar de Sevilla. It is the city’s royal palace and it is one of the most fascinating spots to wander through! In fact, it can take you hours to tour the entire palace. It features Moorish architecture, beautiful gardens, incredible details and so much more.

Seville is also the birthplace for flamenco dancing! During a trip to Seville during September, you must attend a dance show with María La Serrana.
One of the best day trips from Sevilla is to the Andalusian city of Granada, which is home to the Alhambra! The breathtaking Alhambra is one of the very few spiritual masterpieces in the world that features influences from Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
Split, Croatia:

If you’re dreaming of a coastal vacation for some sun during the month of September, spending at least 2 days in Split, Croatia would fulfill your desires!
A top thing to do in Split is to wander down the streets of the Old Town. It features beautiful, medieval architecture surrounded by endless stone walls that will make you feel like you’ve stepped foot into a medieval fairytale. Diocletian’s Palace is particularly impressive!

There are also plenty of interesting shops, museums, restaurants and wine bars within the Old Town to enjoy! For beach lovers, BaČvice Beach and KaŠtelet Beach are lively and popular in the area for both families and partygoers to enjoy! Lastly, the Riva Promenade is a wonderful spot to enjoy incredible shopping and restaurants!
A great day trip outside of Split is Plitvice Lakes National Park. It boasts aqua blue waterfalls, epic hiking trails and a limestone canyon to admire!
Best Places to go in September for Sun in North America:

Austin, Texas:
Austin, Texas is one of the best places to travel to during September in the USA. If you are looking for where it’s hot in September, Austin is the city for you!
Home to incredible food, exciting nightlife, beautiful nature and an overall great vibe, you cannot beat a September weekend in the capital city of Texas! While enjoying Austin’s incredible food scene, from BBQ at Lambert’s Downtown Barbecue to Torchy’s Tacos, you must also explore the city’s beer scene, live music venues and epic murals.

When looking for another way to enjoy some September sun, you can stroll through Zilker Park or relax in the warm waters at Barton Springs Pool. Overall, Austin makes for one of the most perfect holiday destinations during September! If you visit in October, you can also attend Austin City Limits, which is a fun music festival that takes place in Zilker Park!
Banff, Canada:

Banff National Park is in the Canadian Rockies and one of the most breathtaking locations. It’s also the best place for sun in September!
If you didn’t know already, Banff, Canada is one of my favorite places in the world and it’s a nature lover’s paradise with its tall mountains, evergreen forests and aqua-colored waters. Some of my favorite lakes are also in Banff National Park, such as Moraine Lake and Lake Louise.

Along with wonderful hiking opportunities in the mountains, you could also enjoy a September day horseback riding at Warner Stables or canoeing along the Bow River. If you’re not much of a hiker, you can take the Banff Gondola and view scenic mountain peaks from above!
Another reason why Banff is one of the best places to go in September for sun is because there is a cute downtown area to enjoy during a beautiful evening.
Martha’s Vineyard:

A girl’s trip to Martha’s Vineyard is a must during the month of September. Martha’s Vineyard is a lovely island south of Cape Cod and it boasts charming inns and cottages. (I recommend staying at Nobnocket Boutique Inn in Vineyard Haven.)
Martha’s Vineyard is also famous for its Victorian cottages or Gingerbread Houses. You’ll love strolling down Oak Bluffs and enjoying these cute and colorful homes out in the September sun. Additionally, Martha’s Vineyard has incredible dining opportunities at The Black Dog Tavern, Back Door Donuts and Lookout Tavern.

A trip to Martha’s Vineyard during September would not be complete without tasting local beer and wine at Bad Martha Farmer’s Brewery and Offshore Ale Company. For wine, Cape Cod Winery is a great spot to go tasting in Falmouth, Massachusetts. It’s not on Martha’s Vineyard, but you can take the ferry back to the mainland to enjoy it!
When planning an outdoor adventure in Martha’s Vineyard, you need to visit Edgartown Harbor Light. This beautiful lighthouse overlooks Katama Bay and is a wonderful spot for a picnic! There are also small beaches in the area to swim at. My personal favorite was Joseph Sylvia State Beach! For a unique nature experience, you can hike around the wooded Aquinnah area of the island. It’s beautiful!
Sedona, Arizona:

A September trip to Sedona is one that is full of scenic, nature views and lots of warm sun. Sedona is the best place to holiday in September for sun, as there are plenty of incredible places to hike and explore in the area. My favorite hikes during a weekend in Sedona, that I recommend, are Devil’s Bridge and Cathedral Rock trails.
Additionally, Sedona has one of the best food scenes in the American West! I recommend visiting Lisa Dahl’s restaurants, which are Mariposa that is a Latin-inspired grill; Cucina Rustica that is a rustic Tuscan grill; Dahl & DiLuca that is an Italian restaurant; Pisa Lisa that is a pizzeria and Butterfly Burger that is a couture burger lounge.

What also makes Sedona one of the best places to go in September is that you can also enjoy the wine region! Sedona is right outside of Arizona’s Verde Valley Wine Trail. In addition, the city also boasts tasting rooms where you can sip wine and admire the beautiful red rocks surrounding the area.
For a more casual experience in Sedona, I recommend exploring the Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village and seeing the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park. Downtown Sedona is also a great way to spend September sun-filled holidays with its fun shops and restaurants.
Steamboat Springs, Colorado:

Steamboat Springs is one of the best places to travel to in September in the USA! This scenic location has gorgeous nature and vibrant fall colors, making it a true hiker’s paradise.
One of the most popular things to do in Steamboat Springs during fall is to enjoy the area’s most beautiful hikes. I personally love Fish Creek Falls as it features aspen tree forests, breathtaking waterfalls and a view of the Rocky Mountains.

Another wonderful spot to enjoy in Steamboat Springs during the month of September is Strawberry Park Hot Springs. These hot springs are the perfect temperature during the fall months and it’s a wonderful spot to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy beautiful nature all around!
In addition, you can also enjoy horseback riding and visit the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park! If you want to extend your trip a little longer, I recommend visiting Denver and doing a fun Colorado road trip to Colorado Springs, Vail, Breckenridge, Telluride and more!
Black Hills, South Dakota:

One of the most underrated states in America is South Dakota. In fact, South Dakota was my 35th state and I loved it so much!
South Dakota is one of the best places to go in September as it features endless grasslands, stunning black hills, incredible badlands to explore, fascinating wildlife and fun Western towns to stay in.

Some of the best places that you cannot miss during your September trip to South Dakota are Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the historic towns of Deadwood and Custer. If you love Western towns, a visit to Deadwood and Wall Drug are a must!
