Ideas for Travel Bloggers and Enthusiasts

The start of 2020 hasn’t brought the best of luck to all of us. We entered into an unfortunate event and are staying home to help heal the world. It is very rare when situations like this happen, but when they do, it is up to us travel bloggers to keep the inspiration and creativity flowing even at home.

I am very grateful that I was able to go on two big trips so far this year before everything went down in March 2020. I did an epic winter ski trip to the Dolomites in Northern Italy and an unforgettable Southeast Asia trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. Because of what is going on in the world, I had to postpone my mini Southwest USA road trip along with my family trip to Southern Italy. I will admit that it was a bit of a bummer having to reschedule two trips I was looking forward to, but it is best to stay put for the moment for mine and everyone else’s safety. In the meantime, I am enjoying all the simple things at home, getting blog work done that has been put on the back burner and finding ways to explore the beauty of my own backyard… literally, my own backyard!

10 Ideas for Travel Bloggers

Dress like You’re on a Trip:

A travel blogger dressing enjoying travel inspiration from home

One of the first and top ways to feel like you’re on a trip is by dressing as if you are on one at the moment. Rec Room gifted me with one of their beautiful dresses that are perfect for both a vacation and staycation. I absolutely LOVE this style because it offers loose sleeves and a breezy open back, making it the perfect spring and summer dress! They come in five sizes – extra small, small, medium, large and extra large.

Whether you are enjoying a martini or a quarantini, Rec Room’s selection of apparel is comfortable, cute and trendy to enjoy your time in. Rec Room features soft and stretchy fashion wear made from Italian fabrics in small batches within the state of California. What I love about their fabric is that it is also lightweight and it is perfect for a vacation to Southern Europe, the American West, the South of the USA, Australia, Southeast Asia and more. I recommend pairing it with sandals, a cute hat and some lovely jewelry!

Wine Taste and Food Pairing in Your Own Backyard:

A woman eating a chocolate covered strawberry and drinking Champagne on her patio

Food and wine play a huge role in my travels around the world. One of the best ways for travel bloggers (or anyone who has wanderlust) to feel like they are on a trip somewhere in the world is by doing a wine tasting with a food pairing at home! Whether you are enjoying your tasting on your living room couch, out on your porch or in your bathtub, both wine and food will put everyone in a good mood. My personal favorite wine and food pairings are red wine with pasta; rosé with oysters or any type of seafood; Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries (pictured here) and white wine with prosciutto and melon.

A woman giving a toast at home

I loved wearing my Rec Room dress to do my wine and food tasting. I was both comfortable and felt beautiful; since I enjoy dressing up when I visit a vineyard anywhere else at any other time. When you plan your wine tasting and food pairing, I recommend supporting small businesses and ordering locally from wineries nearby as well as local restaurants.

Travel Bloggers WFH on Your Patio/Deck/Balcony:

Tips for travel bloggers at home

Another great way to keep the blogging creativity alive for travel bloggers is by working from home (WFH) outside. Now, I understand that not everyone has a backyard, patio, deck, porch, garden, balcony, etc., so if you don’t have any one of those, I recommend moving a table close to the window in your home and opening it up.

Seeing nature, listening to the bird sings and breathing the fresh air enhances creative ways of thinking. Being out in nature is also good for your digestive system, helps improve blood pressure and heart rate, makes you happier, strengthens your immune system, cleans your lungs, gives you more energy and sharpens your mind, making you more productive! What is great about my dress from Rec Room is that the material is light enough for you to feel comfortable when it is hot, since it wicks sweat away, and it is perfect to also pair with a denim jacket or sweater on a chillier day.

Start a Vlog:

Travel bloggers starting a travel vlog from home

During this time period, there is no excuse to not get the things done that have been put on the back burner. For me, I am working on SEO for my blog and I also want to officially start my own travel vlog – something that has really been put on the back burner! Whether you want to start a travel, cooking, lifestyle, fitness or talk show vlog, now is the perfect time to get out your mirrorless camera or cell phone and start taking footage around you and doing everything that’s been on your mind.

Rec Room’s selection of clothing is perfect for vlogging since the fabric is buttery soft and easy to move around in. It is also perfect for being featured on camera since wrinkles fall right out!

Go for a Walk Around Your Neighborhood:

A travel blogger taking a walk in her neighborhood with her comfortable Rec Room dress

Not only is it extremely important to remain active while we are home, it also reduces stress, combats fatigue and boosts your mood, helping you remain inspired and open minded. One of the top things I enjoy doing while I cannot travel is taking walks around my neighborhood.

I will admit that prior to March 2020, it had been a few years since I walked around the neighborhood that I grew up in, so it is nice to take a stroll and admire all of the beautiful homes around. A cool way to “travel the world” while you take a neighborhood stroll, is by looking at the architecture of the different homes. When I went for a stroll the other day, I wore my Rec Room dress and paired it with my comfy tennis shoes. I traveled to the United Kingdom by looking at the English Tudor homes; France with the French Country homes and Washington D.C. with the Colonial homes.

Watch a Travel-Related Movie:

A travel blogger keeping her travel inspiration flowing at home

Rec Room clothing offers soft and stretchy material that is perfect for sitting around and watching television. In all honesty, I have never watched as much TV as I have now. I even got Netflix! (I’ve been trying to hold off on getting Netflix for the longest time.) One of the best ways for travel bloggers to get inspiration at home is by watching a travel-related film. Below are my recommendations:

  • The Way (Camino de Santiago, Northern Spain)
  • Wild (Pacific Crest Trail, West Coast USA)
  • Into the Wild (Alaska)
  • Midnight in Paris (Paris, France)
  • Eat, Pray, Love (Italy, India and Bali)
  • Hideous Kinky (Morocco)
  • Little Miss Sunshine (American West)
  • Harry Potter (United Kingdom)
  • Twilight (Pacific Northwest)

Read a Travel-Related Book:

A woman reading a travel book on her Tablet at home

Not only is watching a travel-related film the best way to boost your creativity as a travel blogger, reading a book about travel is also a great thing to do during this down time. A few months ago, I got a Tablet for my travels and have been downloading countless books on it. Even though I prefer to read a book the traditional way by flipping the pages, it is nice to be able to download anything at the tip of my fingers from anywhere. Just like watching movies, I enjoy reading in quiet areas of my house with my comfy Rec Room dress on. Below are my favorite travel-related books:

  • Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (Italy, India and Bali)
  • Vagabonding by Rolf Potts (Worldwide)
  • Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer (Alaska)
  • Wild by Cheryl Strayed (Pacific Crest Trail, West Coast USA)
  • The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (Egypt)
  • The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell (Denmark)

Cook a Meal from Your Favorite Destinations:

A delicious international meal that you could cook at home

Another great way for travel bloggers to keep the creative juices flowing is by making a dish (or a drink) from their past travels. The Rec Room dress is also great to wear while you’re wrapping up your favorite meal since it is silky soft and easy to move in. It is also easy to care for because you could throw it in the washing machine or even wash it in the sink. The fabric dries fast and all of the wrinkles fall out! Below are some delicious signature dishes from my past trips that were absolutely amazing:

Decorate Your House with Travel Memorabilia:

A travel blogger finding creativity at home

With a lot of time to spare at home, now is the perfect time to decorate your space with all the travel memorabilia you’ve collected. I had a painting from Cambodia, a poster from Spain and a ton of postcards hanging around, so I decided to get everything framed from my family friend’s framing business. Whether you’ve bought a carpet in Morocco, lamp in Turkey, a Buddha from Asia, etc. now is the perfect time to decorate or re decorate your house to bring you back to those special destinations.

Have a Dance Party to Songs that Remind You of Past Trips:

Travel bloggers having fun at home

Another great way to keep the travel spirit alive as a travel blogger stuck at home is to relive good memories by dancing to the songs that remind you of fun times during past trips. Rec Room offers the highest quality performance fabric on the market, making it perfect to bust a few moves in. Even though it is random, below is a list of songs that bring me back to certain trips over the years:

  • Salamanca Study Abroad Trip: No Sigue Modas and Bailando Por El Mundo by Juan Magan
  • Portugal During Study Abroad: Ai Se Eu Te Pego by Michael Teló and Balada by Gusttavo Lima
  • Greek Islands: Girls Like by Tinie Tempah featuring Zara Larsson
  • Iceland: Shape of You by Ed Sheeran
  • Sicily: Despacito by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber; Attention by Charlie Puth and Bon Bon by Era Istrefi
  • Thailand: You Don’t Know Me by Jax Jones and Wild Thoughts by Rihanna and DJ Khaled featuring Bryson Tiller
  • Japan: In My Feelings by Drake
  • Sevilla: La Bicicleta by Shakira
  • Amsterdam: Move Your Body by Junior Senior
  • Camino de Santiago: Señorita by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
  • Belize: Calma by Pedro Capó and Farruko
  • Colorado: Circles by Post Malone and How Do You Sleep by Sam Smith
  • Dolomites: Isn’t It Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid
  • Vietnam: Takeaway by Chainsmokers

The Perfect Dress for Travel Bloggers

A woman wearing her Rec Room dress at home

There are so many reasons why I LOVE Rec Room, but one of the top reasons is because all of their apparel are sourced and made at a fair and ethical factory. Rec Room’s California manufacturing partner also makes team USA’s Olympic wear! In addition, the factory scored a near-perfect 98.4% in a compliance audit that evaluates wages, hours and environment. Their mill in Italy is committed not just to the highest-quality fabrics, but it also supports a number of leading-edge conservation programs to reduce waste and environmental impact.
